One Bowl Crispy Baked Tofu

One Bowl Crispy Baked Tofu

I have so much love for crispy tofu. It has been a staple of my diet for years.

Each time I make this recipe, the tofu comes out crispy, savory, and so, so delicious.

This recipe is meant to deliver the crispiness and flavor of a fried food, but without the added calories of excessive oil.

Crispy baked tofu tastes amazing in stir fries, Buddha bowls, wraps, and salads.

Tofu is inexpensive, nutritious, and oh so versatile.

It is not only a good source of protein, but it’s also packed with nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, and iron.

And the best part is, you can do absolutely anything with it.

You can sauté it up with your favorite sauce, turn it into a delicious scramble, and you can even make vegan cheesecakes out of it!

Picking the right tofu

For this recipe, I really like to use extra firm or even super firm tofu (the one that comes in tight, clear plastic packaging).

You can use regular firm tofu, too, but you will find that it may need to be put in a tofu press for around an hour.

If you don’t have a tofu press, you can also use towels and a nearby heavy object (see image below).

Combining the spices

You can make this recipe with spices from scratch but I find that your favorite seasoning does the trick with less hassle and more versatility.

I adore chili lime seasoning (I use two teaspoons) but I find that when I don’t have that on hand, a blend of chili powder, smoked paprika, and garlic powder definitely does the trick!

Feel free to experiment with different seasonings until you find your favorite crispy tofu combination!

YOUR TOFU MAY START TO CRUMBLE AND THAT’S OKAY

When you toss the tofu cubes in the spices and cornstarch, you will find that it may begin to crumble slightly.

This will depend on how firm the tofu is but honestly…I actually think the crumbles turn out to be delicious.

They add great texture and crunch and I look forward to bites of crumble when they come out of the oven!

I really hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do!
